Environmental responsibility is embedded in SSP’s operational planning, waste handling, site practices, and day‑to‑day decision‑making.
SSP’s environmental approach is practical, proportionate, and aligned with the nature of its work: junk removal, property clean‑ups, illegal dumping response, vegetation handling, and community‑based environmental services.
SSP operates under a documented Environmental Management Policy aligned with:
Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (NSW)
Local council waste and environmental requirements
EPA guidelines for waste classification, transport, and disposal
SafeWork NSW Codes of Practice relating to waste handling, hazardous materials, and manual tasks
Relevant planning or environmental conditions for public‑space works
The policy outlines SSP’s commitment to:
responsible waste management
pollution prevention
safe handling of materials encountered during field operations
transparent reporting and cooperation with regulatory authorities
This framework ensures SSP’s environmental practices remain compliant, consistent, and proportionate to the risks associated with each job.
SSP applies practical environmental controls across all field operations to minimise impact and ensure compliance.
These controls include:
Identifying environmental hazards during site‑specific risk assessments
Segregating waste streams to prevent contamination
Maintaining clean, orderly work areas to reduce environmental impact
Using appropriate tools and methods to minimise disturbance to soil, vegetation, and surrounding areas
Avoiding work during unsafe weather or environmental conditions in line with SSP’s Weather & Environmental Conditions Policy
Ensuring all waste is transported only to licensed disposal or recycling facilities
These controls support safe, responsible, and environmentally conscious service delivery.
SSP maintains clear procedures for reporting and managing environmental incidents.
Requirements include:
Immediate notification to the Managing Director for any environmental hazard, spill, or contamination risk
Documentation of incidents using SSP’s Incident & Hazard Report Form

Sydney Street Projects (SSP) has established a practical and proportionate risk management framework designed to support safe, predictable, and compliant service delivery as operations commence.
This framework aligns with NSW WHS legislation, SafeWork NSW Codes of Practice, and SSP’s internal policies and procedures.
Risk management will be integrated into all stages of SSP’s future service delivery, from initial
client contact through to job completion and post‑work review.
SSP’s risk management approach is built on four core principles:
Identify hazards through site‑specific risk assessments and pre‑task checks
Assess risks using a consistent, documented method
Control risks using practical, effective, and proportionate measures
Review controls to ensure they remain effective over time
This approach will be applied to all future property, environmental, and community‑focused tasks.
SSP has identified common risk categories relevant to its planned operations. Controls will be
applied based on the nature of each job and the conditions on site.
Common categories include:
Manual handling & musculoskeletal risks — safe lifting techniques, load‑sharing, mechanical aids
Slips, trips & falls — housekeeping standards, exclusion zones, hazard identification
Environmental conditions — heat, storms, wind, fire danger, and flooded conditions
Vehicle & trailer operations — pre‑start checks, load restraint, reversing controls
Waste handling & contamination — PPE, segregation, sharps protocols, hygiene controls
Public interaction & client environments — boundaries, communication, respectful conduct
These controls will be documented in SSP’s SWMS, policies, and operational procedures.
SSP will maintain a clear escalation pathway to ensure that higher‑risk issues are addressed promptly and appropriately.
Escalation will occur when:
a hazard cannot be controlled at the worksite
a task presents a risk beyond SSP’s capability or scope
regulated materials (e.g., asbestos, contaminated soil, sharps) are identified
a worker or supervisor believes the task is unsafe to continue
In such cases, work will be paused and the Managing Director will determine the appropriate next steps.
SSP is committed to ongoing improvement of its risk management practices. As operations commence and grow, SSP will:
review risk trends and incident data
update procedures, SWMS, and policies as required
incorporate lessons learned into training and supervision
consult with workers and stakeholders to strengthen controls
This continuous improvement cycle will ensure SSP’s risk management framework remains effective, practical, and aligned with real‑world conditions.
